How to buy a share

Pick a processing date and a size. Pork is sold as half or whole shares. The amount you pay today is a deposit ($150 half, $300 whole) and is applied to the final price of $5/lb hanging weight. If you back out, the deposit is forfeited.

The process

  1. We take the animal to Keller Meats (3739 Avon Lake Rd, Litchfield OH 44253, 330-722-4501).
  2. Keller calls you for your cut sheet — steak thickness, roasts, ground, sausage, smoked cuts, and so on. We send a short guide before that call.
  3. After harvest we invoice you for the balance: hanging weight × $5/lb, minus your deposit. You pay us for the meat.
  4. You pay Keller separately for processing (slaughter, cutting, wrapping, plus any curing, smoking, or patties you choose) and pick up there when they call. Meat is frozen unless you ask otherwise; bring coolers.

Hanging weight and yield

Hanging weight is the carcass after slaughter, before it is cut. Boxed meat weighs less after bone and trim — that is normal. Ask for bones, fat, and organs if you want them.

A typical half hangs about 85–100 lb and feeds two people for a year. Budget roughly $650–900 for a half, including butcher fees.
