3 品种来源和特性

梅山猪原产地为长江三角洲冲积平原太湖流域,中心产区位于江苏省太仓市、昆山市和上海市嘉定区等。梅山猪属江海型地方品种,具有高繁殖力特性。

4 体型外貌特征

梅山猪被毛以黑毛为主,四肢末端为白色,俗称“四脚白”,部分吻部、腹下或尾尖为白色。体型偏小或中等。头中等大小,额部皱纹有少有多,嘴筒较长。耳大下垂,耳尖与嘴角齐平或超过嘴角。背腰微凹,腹大下垂,腹部皮肤多为紫红色。四肢粗短。乳头数8对以上。梅山猪品种照片参见附录A。

Meishan pig

1 Scope

This standard specifies the breed origin and characteristics, conformation and appearance traits, adult body weight and body measurements, production performance, methods of measurement, and basic requirements for breeding use of the Meishan pig. This standard applies to identification of the Meishan pig.

3 Breed origin and characteristics

The Meishan pig is native to the Taihu Lake basin of the Yangtze River Delta alluvial plain. The central production area is located in Taicang City and Kunshan City of Jiangsu Province and Jiading District of Shanghai Municipality, among other places. The Meishan pig is a Jianghai-type local breed and has the characteristic of high prolificacy.

4 Conformation and appearance traits

The coat of the Meishan pig is predominantly black. The extremities of the limbs are white, commonly called “four white feet” (四脚白). In some animals the snout, the underside of the belly, or the tip of the tail is white. Body size is on the small side or medium. The head is medium-sized; wrinkles on the forehead may be few or many; the snout is relatively long. The ears are large and pendulous; the ear tips are level with the corners of the mouth or extend beyond them. The back and loin are slightly concave; the belly is large and pendulous; the abdominal skin is mostly purplish red. The limbs are thick and short. There are 8 or more pairs of teats. Photographs of the breed are given in Annex A.
